Aussenkehr (a private park and large Table Grape Production area) is on the Southern border of Namibia, about 50 km west (on the C13) of the Noordoewer border crossing to South Africa. It serves also as an excellent stop-over to and from the Spitzkoppe, Ai Ais Hot Springs, Fish River Canyon, Luderitz and Sossusvlei. Climbing took off in 2005 after Tony Lourens and Keith James recognised the potential and opened the first routes. They have bolted and opened most of the sport routes. There are two climbing areas in the park. At this stage only Kings Throne Canyon has sport routes. Quiver Tree Canyon is has yet only see some trad climbing to date. Trad routes were mostly opened by two Bavarians, Georg Pollinger and anton Baumgartner. Aussenkehr is in a rocky desert area with very high summer temperatures - preferred climbing between April and September. In Kings Throne Canyon there will always be some routes in the shade. Accomodation (chalets and camping) and ENTRY to Kings Throne Canyon can be arrange at the Norotshama River Resort - about 15 min drive from the crags.
