The Aussenkehr farm has had a colourful history:
In 1949
In 1949, the land was surveyed and registered as the farm Aussenkehr No 147. The area totalled 99 273 358 hectares.
In 1988
In 1988, Dusan Vasiljevic bought Aussenkehr farm and planted the first table grape vineyards in the valley. He observed that Aussenkerhr’s climate was perfect for growing table grapes in the period leading up to Christmas when they are in high demand.
In 1992
In 1992, The Namibian Government successfully negotiated an agreement to give Namibian exports access to the markets in the European Union. This resulted in the accelerated development of the table grape industry in Namibia.
Today
Today there are more than 3000 hectares of vineyards. The Aussenkehr valley is now a leading exporter of early table grapes to major world markets. Aussenkehr is home to up to 20 000 inhabitants who work in a grape industry. Various commercial enterprises have developed in the valley, including retail, banking etc.
Aussenkehr Shopping Center opened in January 2017.
The current tenants are Spar and Tops Liquor Store, Beaver Canoe, Style Clothing, Pep, Furnmart, Nampost, Standard Bank and First National Bank.

Climate
Aussenkehr Region has a desert climate. There are two seasons; the short winter season lasts from May to July and it’s characterized by very little rainfall. The Summer season lasts from August to April. It is very hot and there is no rainfall whatsoever.
Aussenkehr Region is one of the hottest and driest places in Namibia. Köppen-Geiger climate classification is BWh. The average annual temperature is 19.8°C and precipitation 47mm.
